Jaisen Yates, Dead Bird Distraction, 2002, mixed media on canvas

Work that explores how in contemporary western society capitalist systems outweigh pious systems – how consumerism has replaced notions of community and spirituality. Modern culture presents conflicting values through a flood of visual information that blur ‘reality’, fiction, history and narrative, something that is perhaps most prevalent in urban cultures.
